MYRRHA is a research reactor powered by a high-intensity proton accelerator (the reaction stops as soon as the accelerator is switched off).

An extensive application programme is planned including isotope production for medical purposes, transmutation of long-lived radioactive material, development of enabling technology for renewable energy, and others
