Description

Building certainties:
'A second nuclear power plant, the new Delta work?'

In the second half of the 20th century, we made the Netherlands robust and safe with waterworks. During the construction of each subsequent Delta work, we learned from previous projects. New techniques, knowledge about environmental consequences and improved insights into social wishes and costs were fed back into later projects.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands faces a new challenge. Concerns about the climate, the finite nature of fossil reserves and the security of energy supply are causing us to look at our energy economy with different eyes.
There is a growing realisation that we are at a crossroads to start investing in the present with past experiences and wishes for the future. Speakers from industry, politics and the electricity production sector will address questions on Friday 15 May 2009 such as:
* Is it necessary to build a second nuclear power plant in the Netherlands?
* How will politics deal with the construction of a new nuclear power plant?
* What can we learn from the Delta Works when building a nuclear power plant?
* What is the significance of the industry in such large-scale construction projects?

You will hear the opinions of Hans Alders, the chairman of Energiened; Liesbeth Spies, Lower House member for the CDA; the mayor of Borsele Jaap Gelok and prominent figures from the industry.

After lively discussions led by Wouke van Scherrenburg, you will go home with a broad view on the subject of nuclear energy in the Netherlands.
