Description

This year's theme of the annual symposium at Avans is "The Dutch Offshore industry and education". The growth of the Dutch Offshore industry is limited by the lack of well-trained employees. This was one of the reasons why, early this year, the Offshore education programmes of Avans University of Applied Sciences in 's-Hertogenbosch, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, the Willem Barentsz Maritime Institute and Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden set up the "HBO Offshore Network".

HBO Offshore Network
The aim of this Network is to jointly train more students with the right qualifications for the Dutch Offshore industry. The initiators are courses that have been providing "state of the art" education in close cooperation with industry for years. In each of the study programmes, theory and practice are linked by carrying out innovative and challenging research design issues from practice. These issues are provided by more than 30 leading companies from the Oil & Gas industry. During the symposium, we want to develop new ideas to further improve and optimise our courses.

Why an offshore symposium in 's-Hertogenbosch?
The annual offshore symposium in 's-Hertogenbosch is now entering its fifth year. An anniversary, in other words.
Previously, the inviting parties were Avans University of Applied Sciences and KIVI NIRIA. This year, they are the HBO Offshore Network and Avans. In the coming years, the symposium will be organised each year by a different college of the Network. Next year, therefore, the symposium will take place in Rotterdam.

More than 150 students!
Due to the participation of the 4 institutes of the Network with a total of 10 study programmes, the symposium will be attended by more than 150 students, who are following an Offshore minor in the 4th year. They will actively participate during the symposium. During lunch, 15 groups will show their first projects via a poster presentation (competition). In the afternoon programme, they will be challenged to submit ideas to, among other things, get more students interested in the offshore industry
