Offshore Immersed Tunnels
Description
*****The application deadline has been reached. You can no longer register. Due to safety regulations, there is no point -if you are not on the participants list- in coming on the off chance.*****
Recent tunnel projects have shown that immersed tunnels are not only feasible in waterways, but that they can be competitive to long span bridges or bored tunnels under more challenging circumstances. Immersed tunnels have been constructed successfully in water depths up to 58 m below sea level, in very poor soil conditions, with increasing lengths, increasing design lives and above all under offshore conditions. Since the technique is very mature in the Netherlands, Dutch companies are involved in many of these projects, and as such this construction method can be considered as a Dutch export product.
