Description

For philosophers, the analysis of the concept of function has the goal of providing an unambiguous and precise definition, and the removal of ambiguity is seen as something that will advance the engineering sciences. In design methodology, this ideal is hardly endorsed but ambiguity of functional descriptions is an accepted phenomenon. In his presentation, the speaker argues why engineers give the concept of function a flexible meaning, and considers the implications for philosophical analysis.

Prior to the lecture, the General Membership Meeting of the Philosophy & Engineering Section will be held from 18:00. When registering, please indicate whether you would like to participate
