Description

In his presentation, the speaker will discuss developments in engineering ethics. He will start by outlining two traditional approaches, namely so-called professional engineering ethics and engineering ethics. He will then outline two more recent approaches, namely value-conscious design and responsible innovation. He will outline the differences with the traditional approaches and discuss some examples

Ibo van de Poel is professor of ethics and engineering at TU Delft and section leader of the philosophy and ethics of engineering section. His research focuses on ethical questions in engineering design, questions of (distribution of) responsibility in the development and use of engineering, and ethical aspects of new technology, in particular new technology as a form of social experimentation.
