Further explanation :
Short-, medium- and long-term risk management is essential in the storage and processing of the three types of radioactive waste that can be (processed and) stored at COVRA for a minimum of 100 years.
N.B..
COVRA is the only facility in the Netherlands for the collection, processing and storage of radioactive waste.
The HABOG (High-Level Radioactive Waste Treatment and Storage Building) was recently expanded.
Expired waste is periodically released from the LOG (Low and Medium Level Radioactive Waste Storage Building).
There are several expansion plans, including for a Multipurpose Storage Building (MOG).
We are welcomed and shown around by:
- Dr Ewoud V. Verhoef, Plv. Director
- Ir. Robbert-Jan Nortier, Head of Department Control & Care
Costs: There are no costs associated with participation for KIVI (RBT) members. Perhaps a reason for KIVI members to also become RBT members.
N.B. The excursion is open to KIVI members only.
Registration: Via the KIVI website. For practical reasons, the number of participants is limited to 25, so do not register too late(at least before 14 June next).
All participants must have a valid identification document with them on 21 June 2023: passport, ID card or driving licence. Entry will be denied without valid identity documents.
Sufficient free parking is available on site. COVRA is not accessible by public transport.
