Long-Term Developments in Risk Management:
Safety, Security and Resilience to External Effects (Resilience) and various technology areas in their relation to ageing (Ageing).

A car is built for an (economic) lifetime of 15-20 years, an aircraft for a lifetime of at least 30 years and a new nuclear power plant is built for a lifetime of at least 60 years, while the COVRA (Central Organisation For Radioactive Waste) HABOG (High-Level Waste Treatment and Storage Building) is designed for a lifetime of more than 100 years. During such long lifetimes, society's requirements for a new car, aircraft or nuclear facility change and ageing plays an increasingly important role. For existing means of transport and nuclear installations, where this is at least possible and economically viable, it makes sense to carry out a periodic test (a kind of refined MOT) to determine whether they can still comply with the regulations in force at the time of the test and society's changing requirements for safety, security and resistance to external effects.

KIVI-Kerntechniek (KIVI-KE) and KIVI-RiskBeheer en Techniek (KIVI-RBT) will each give two lectures that will show that there are clearly different approaches to long-term risk management in various technology areas.

KIVI-RBT will provide lectures on developments in automotive and aircraft safety and developments in long-term risk management in general.

KIVI-KE will provide lectures on "resilience in nuclear power" and more specifically on the periodic safety evaluations of (Dutch) nuclear facilities.

KIVI-RBT will try to take a look into the future of risk management in addition to a brief historical perspective and a consideration of the present.
