Particularly in the Drechtsteden region, you cannot open the newspaper and it is all about the vicissitudes and risks of chemical companies like Dupont/Chemours and the many hazardous materials routes through and around Dordrecht.

Now there are many more things in life that put you at health or environmental risk. You have to deal with those wisely. Participating in traffic is such a risk; but through one's own experience and insight, one can manage that risk. It becomes more difficult to manage a risk from chemical / hazardous substances if you have no understanding of how they work at all. This is also the case with the majority of the population up to many engineers outside the "chemical and related field". Having to deal with it but actually not knowing how to handle all those hazardous substances safely and stay healthy.

Therefore, on Tuesday 6 March 2018, we will start with a short informative introduction on the properties of hazardous substances. And how to handle them safely. On Tuesday 13 March, regulations from the government on how to protect "citizens" from chemical risks and how to influence them will be discussed.

The KIVI Risk Management and Technology department, together with the former KIVI region Zuid-Holland Zuid and the Drechtsteden University of Applied Sciences, took the initiative to give interested parties some guidance in this area. In particular, residents in the Drechtsteden region are cordially invited to participate.

The programme includes two short sessions on the following topics:
- General introduction of chemicals and relationship with toxicology, among others, on Tuesday 6 March 2018 from 19:00 to 21:00.
- External safety and relationship with Spatial Planning and something about measurement on Tuesday 13 March 2018 from 19:00 to 21:00.

Maximum of eight KIVI participants per session. Then there will still be room for interested Dordrecht citizens and, due to the limited group size, plenty of room for an exchange of views.

Plenty of parking space and accessible by public transport.
