SUMMARY READING
"What does it mean to invest responsibly in a year like 2008?"
The year 2008 will go down in history as a year of extremes. It was the year of the credit crunch. The year when once-mighty financial institutions collapsed or had to turn to governments for support. It was also the year of the highest oil prices ever and the year when the US auto industry was driven to the brink of bankruptcy and the US government had to be bailed out. It was also the year of hope for change with the election of Obama in the United States.
In many ways, the events of 2008 have changed the way people look at the world. And it seems that a new direction is being taken in a number of areas. For instance, it is very striking and positive that in governments' plans to save the economy, many resources are being released for alternative energy and green jobs. And we at APG think this is good news. APG already invests large amounts in renewable energy and believes in the future potential for renewable energy sources. It would help though if world leaders agree on a strong and globally supported climate policy in Copenhagen at the end of 2009. The presentation looks at a number of sustainable investments and discusses what APG is doing to factor the effects of climate change into its investment decisions.
When the subject board told Mr Erik Jan Stork who our members are, he made the comment that he actually has an expectation from our members too, namely that they, as engineers, could suggest to him which future potential renewable energy sources to invest in.
Would you like to take up this challenge? Then come to this lecture! You can also post you propositions on the discussion forum of our website using the link provided below.
At the conclusion of this evening, there will be an opportunity for mutual interaction over drinks.
We look forward to your presence!
