Since 1948, Lely has been developing a wide range of machines for feed harvesting and feed composition, management systems, barn equipment, barn design, manure handling, ammonia emission reduction, etc. Due to this wide variety of innovative products, Lely has become known worldwide and remains committed to the agricultural sector. Cattle health is of cardinal importance in Lely's vision; one of the pillars in the development of their products.

A series of lectures (WUR and Tauw) on dairy farming was organised by the KIVI Sustainable Technology board in spring 2023 and was the start of the theme of nitrogen in cattle farming.

On 18 September 2015, DT paid a company visit to Lely. This covered all aspects of sustainability including innovation, production , commissioning, training, maintenance, etc. In the meantime, there were numerous political discussions about ammonia, dust emissions and odour pollution from livestock farming and its impact on the environment. After long discussions, it was finally recognised that innovations could also contribute.

Meanwhile, Lely steadily continued to realise successful innovations that contribute significantly to sustainable development throughout the cattle farming chain.

In 2020, for example, Lely launched the Lely Sphere, which achieves up to 77% ammonia reduction.

The red line of the company visit will therefore once again be steady sustainability development in dairy farming that Lely has been successfully working on for decades.

Presentations will be made by Charlotte Visser (works specifically for the Lely Sphere) and Judith Vollering-Janmaat (sustainability specialist).
