Wetsus
Description
On Wednesday 5 November next, the Department of Environmental Engineering/Food & Green is organising a visit to Wetsus, research centre for sustainable water technology. Wetsus' research is focused on commercial application, so very hands-on. The theme of the meeting is "Algae".
There will first be a general introduction about Wetsus and the research at Wetsus by adjuct director Mr Gert-Jan Euverink. Then, researcher Mr Marcel Janssen will give a presentation on the research topic of using algae to make biofuels from wastewater, CO2 and sunlight. This process is very interesting because it is widely applicable to various wastewater streams and other nutrient surpluses released from a wide range of production processes such as animal husbandry, energy production and wastewater from various production processes that can be used to produce algae that are then converted into biofuel. This research is of interest to oil producers, energy companies, agricultural sector, and other sectors dealing with wastewater, as well as producers of the required technology.
From 15:45, a tour of the Wetsus lab is scheduled, during which some other research themes of Wetsus will also be briefly discussed.
The programme is as follows:
14:00 Reception with coffee and Frisian orange cake
14:15 General introduction Wetsus by deputy scientific director Gert-Jan Euverink
14.30 hrs Introduction 'Algae' by theme coordinator Marcel Janssen
15.15 hrs Opportunity for questions and discussion
