Venlo city hall
Description
Municipal Office Venlo - more than just sustainable.
It is not just any
municipal office, but a special building designed according to the principles of cradle to cradle (C2C).
C2C
A building built according to C2C principles can be considered as a raw material bank. During construction, the materials that make up the building's various segments are carefully mapped out, resulting in a material passport. The value of the various materials upon (partial) demolition is taken into account and the possible alternative uses of the materials in other subsequent constructions are considered in advance.
Self-sufficient
The municipal office generates its own energy. Thanks to thermal energy storage (WKO), PV panels, solar boilers and energy-efficient measures, the building is self-sufficient in its energy needs. Furthermore, rainwater is treated to minimise the use of clean drinking water, a green facade purifies the outside air and a greenhouse on the roof provides natural ventilation. Inside, green walls contribute to humidity, oxygen levels and acoustics. Thanks to large windows and solar panels, the building makes optimal use of the sun as an important source of energy.
Social value
Municipality of Venlo is actively engaged in assessing the social value generated by the building by providing a pleasant, light and natural working environment for its employees. Just by reducing absenteeism by 1%, the municipality saves 480,000 euros a year. That does not even include productivity increases due to a pleasant environment.
