Wageningen UR Glasshouse horticulture
Description
The Department for Environmental Technology/Food & Green (MT/V&G) will visit Wageningen UR (University & Research centre) at its research site in Bleiswijk. Here, Wageningen UR conducts research into innovations for (greenhouse) horticulture. The MT/V&G department is organising this meeting in the context of one of its main themes, namely "De boer op, moderne land- en tuinbouw en voedsel".
Wageningen UR's research into innovations in (greenhouse) horticulture has an international character where all aspects are addressed. Starting from the needs and requirements of all parties involved, all phases in the production -consumption chain and in mutual connection are examined. The research into innovation includes the following parties and research areas:
Plant growers, plant breeding, disease susceptibility, greenhouse builders, climate and water management, energy consumption and energy concepts, soil management and fertilisation, agrochemicals and chemicals use and chemical consumption, labour requirements, processing, mechanisation, automation and harvesting techniques, shelf life, preservation, packaging, storage and transport, the retail business, gross/net crop yield, quality, taste, food safety and cost price.
The researchers work on innovations from different avenues and starting points, in other words why and how is this research done:
- National and international developments and needs, sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
- Vision and policy Wageningen UR: where do we come from, where are we and where do we want/need to go. The international context.
- Legislation and regulations, rules and guidelines
- State of related science and technology
- Wageningen UR and in particular this research in relation to the 9 Top Sectors of the Ministry of EL&I, such as agri-food and horticulture
- Research design, results, state of affairs, future expectations in relation to the research.
The researchers from Wageningen UR will address the above-mentioned items, among others, in their presentations.
In short, in three hours your picture of research on innovations for (greenhouse) horticulture will be completed, updated and given horizon
