Description

The KIVI Telecommunications Department invites you to the theme evening "Communication facilities for the home".
Both the connection of the home to the ever faster Internet and the number of devices that will start using the Internet in the home (the Internet of Things) require better communication facilities in the home itself. Three lectures will cover the developments of communication devices, protocols and standardisation underway in this field

18.20 h Opening by chairman of the day ir. W.J. van der Kamp
18.30 h Prof. Ton Koonen, Photonic In-home Networks; Plastic optical fibre techniques and optical wireless
19.05:Frank den Hartog (TNO), The future of power line communication and the role of the home gateway
19:40 Prof. Ingrid Moerman, Integration of embedded devices in internet technology, protocols and standardisation
20:15 Discussion
20:30 Drinks

Speaker(s)

Ton (A.M.J.) Koonen is a full professor at Eindhoven Univ. of Technology since 2001. He is since 2004 chairman of the Electro-Optical Communication Systems (ECO) group, part of the COBRA institute, and since Sep. 2012 also vice-dean of the department Electrical Engineering. He is a Bell Labs Fellow, IEEE Fellow, OSA Fellow, and 2011 ERC Advanced Investigator Grant winner. His current research interests are in fibre-optic access and in-home networks, including radio-over-fibre and optical wireless techniques, and mode multiplexing systems.

Frank den Hartog has been a senior researcher at TNO in the field of network technology since 2003. Prior to that, he worked as a researcher at KPN. In 1998, he obtained his PhD from Leiden University as an experimental physicist. At TNO, he has become one of the world's leading researchers in the field of home gateways and in-home networks. In 2012 he was appointed chairman of the technical working group of the global Home Gateway Initiative industrial consortium.
