The International Union of Radio Science (URSI) and the KIVI Telecommunications Department invites you to the theme evening "Developments in Healthcare".

The ageing of society puts pressure on healthcare costs. At the same time, a growing group of elderly people is looking for ways of care that maintain quality of life. Health services are gathering measurements via of wireless communication, allowing data to be exchanged with doctor and hospital with regularity and available to the patient right away. This development creates the possibility to better monitor overall health, with accurate results but also with an eye on human care.

On this evening, Gerard van Rhoon and Maarten Paulides (Erasmus, Rotterdam) will discuss the developments surrounding hyperthermia (heat) treatment for tumours in the head and neck. Rob Remis will explain the use and developments of Radio and MRI around this treatment. The third lazing will be given by Albert van den Berg and Jan Eijkel. They will discuss the development of Lab-on-a-Chip, the miniaturisation in collecting, analysing and measuring data from and about the human body. The evening will conclude with developments around the various functional components, (sensor/power design, wireless communication) when used for body area networks
