On 8 November, the IPv6 seminar was held at T-Mobile in The Hague.

It was an interesting meeting with no less than 8 speakers.

The theme covered, on the one hand, the current use of IPv6 in the world and specifically in the Netherlands and, on the other hand, a number of presentations on the challenges of implementing IPv6 at Rabobank and at a number of government organisations.

Incidentally, the subtitle was "IPv6 is here!". "When do we turn IPv4 off?"

The conclusion during the panel discussions on this was: "Not for the next few years yet."

T-Mobile gave a good presentation on their NB-IOT solution, which is based on the 3GPPP standard, as an alternative to KPN's LoRa solution.

This topic will be put on next year's agenda by KIVI Department of Telecommunications.

The presentations will be available later on the STIPv6 website: www.stipv6.nl

About 95 participants were registered, of which "only" about 4 were KIVI Members.

Description

'IPv6 is here now, can IPv4 go out already?'

Worldwide IPv6 usage passed 10% in December 2015 and it will show an acceleration in growth in the coming period.

Following the 2012 launch of IPv6 on the websites and services of Google, Apple, Microsoft and Facebook, IPv6 has become increasingly important in ICT environments.

Companies that do not prepare and take measures will run into several problems.

Internet users whose IPv4 address, due to the address shortage, is shared with multiple users will face identification and security problems.

Yet many companies are still postponing the introduction of IPv6. Partly out of ignorance, partly out of cold feet.

What are the costs of introducing IPv6, when are you ready with the introduction, who should you involve in your organisation, what should you pay attention to?

The Stichting IPv6 Nederland is organising a seminar on Tuesday afternoon, 8 November 2016, in which precisely these questions will be answered.

The experiences of organisations already working with IPv6 will be highlighted. Afterwards, seminar participants will understand which steps need to be taken to integrate IPv6 into their ICT environment.
Target group

The seminar is specifically intended for small to medium-sized companies and government bodies and the ICT service providers of these groups. It is a free seminar, but registration is required.

Survey on the use of IPv6

One of the programme components is the interpretation and analysis of an IPv6 survey. The IPv6 Foundation has commissioned Pb7 Research to carry out a survey among Stipv6 relations and subscribers of CloudWorks and Infosecurity Magazine on the status of IPv6 adoption in their organisations.
