Reunion with equipment from college days
On 3 February, the reunion of the telephone equipment was both a nostalgic event and the fact that developments in Telecomland move very fast.
We have quickly become accustomed to good and fast communication and information and are constantly anticipating this. This was clearly illustrated by Wim van Etten.
The development of VOIP over the past 25 years was well presented by Maarten Oberman.
The tour of the museum was accompanied by pleasant networking.

Description
Tour of the electrotechnology study collection TU Delft.
Lectures on the history, present and future of telephony.
Reunion with the equipment from your study days.
KIVI, Telecommunications Department, is organising an interesting event with two lectures by prominent speakers on the invention and beginnings of telephony, and today's telephony VoIP, as the basis for the future. This will be complemented by a unique visit to the electrical engineering study collection where many developments in the fields of electrical engineering, broadcasting, telecommunications and informatics of the last hundred years can be seen.
Expert facilitators will explain well-maintained and mostly functioning equipment from TU Delft's electrical engineering research and education.
* Summary of Wim van Etten's presentation:
The official patent on the invention of telephony is registered in the year 1876. Soon after, a fierce and long legal battle ignited over whether the grant was justified. That battle, and developments over the first 15 years of telephony's existence, took place mainly in the US. The talk aims to shed light on the invention, the inventor(s) and the developments that followed. It shows clever patent politics, industrial power politics and a clever business model. Ingredients that we also see today. We will then briefly look at later developments, to make the picture somewhat complete.
* Summary of Maarten Oberman's presentation:
In 1979, after extensive testing, the position at PTT was: you can talk over LANs, but not over LANs. Those were then the first experiments with VoIP in the Netherlands. Also was the belief, but it will happen. Some 25 years later ...., VoIP has then become mainstream in the Dutch market after all.
Where does VoIP differ from its predecessor, the PABX; why exactly is the VoIP architecture pioneering functionality for the user. What are the obstacles in anno 2016 use. What is in store for the user in the next 5 years in the field of communication.
