Description

We would like to invite you to a lecture evening in which we will present SmartMetering and SmartGrid in a broad perspective. This evening is jointly organised by KIVI NIRIA Telecommunications Department and the NERG.

Harry Droog will be the first speaker to discuss how energy management will become more sustainable including energy saving and will illustrate the need for smart grids. This will also paint the diversity of functionality.
He will also discuss the playing field and the roles of government, consumers, parties in the energy chain and suppliers.

After that, Frans Campfens will cover the technical aspects. Smart meters are part of an advanced system to facilitate the free market of energy supply. Remote meter readings can be read the moment the customer wishes to switch suppliers, and estimated meter readings are a thing of the past. The grid operator can also use the smart meter to gather grid measurements such as voltages and currents. This grid data will soon also form the basis for the optimal functioning of smart grids. Grids that will match supply and demand and transmit the correct consumption data to the energy suppliers.
Electricity supply and grids are transforming from "generate what is consumed" to "consume what is generated".

After each introduction there will be an opportunity for discussion. Afterwards, you are invited to have a drink for some networking.

Speaker(s)

Harry Droog, chairman of the Sustainable Electricity Supply Platform and former director of Electrical Production Company of the Southern Netherlands (EPZ)

Frans Campfens is senior consultant Intelligent Netbeheer at Alliander (formerly Nuon and Continuon). Intelligent Grid Management is a staff department and together with the strategy department it determines policy in this area for Alliander. Alliander has been preparing for the roll-out of the smart meter, and preparing for the introduction of smart grids, for some time now. CO2 reduction will necessitate an energy transition and these concepts will have to play a role in this. For this, the electricity grid in particular, must be able to better handle large-scale decentralised generation and greater unpredictability of consumption and generation, with the same high security of supply
