Elimination Relay Technology with Urgency
Description
Viewed from the traditional signalling technology with relays and light signals, ERTMS is seen as the solution for more capacity, availability and safety on the railways, at lower (maintenance) costs. ERTMS offers the possibility to implement train safety in 21st century technology once and for all. To achieve these goals, the necessary challenges in ERTMS still need to be overcome. In this meeting, KIVI Department of Rail Systems will take you on a brisk walking tour via CBTC and ERTMS Level 2, to the (currently) highest Level of ERTMS, ERTMS Level 3, with some renowned speakers as your guide. The speakers will explain, from their personal experience, which challenges have already been overcome, and how far we really are from ERTMS Level 3 as a proven technology
About the speakers:
Maarten Bartholomeus has been working in the railway industry for ~18 years, initially as senior consultant railway safety at Movares, where he worked intensively on the subject of ERTMS. Since 2009, Maarten has been working as an ERTMS system expert at ProRail. Here, Maarten's work includes ERTMS Hybrid Level 3, and new 'constant warning time' level crossing functionality under ERTMS.
Marcel vd Vliet has been working in the rail industry for ~20 years, spread over 2 periods. Of these, Marcel has spent the last 13 years working at ProRail Innovation and Development where ERTMS is a key focus. After his involvement in the start-up activities for the BetuweRoute, Marcel has spent the last 5 years mainly preparing an ERTMS Level 3-based implementation in the Netherlands.
Willie Notten has worked in the rail industry for more than 25 years, the last 15 of which in the field of train safety, and has been involved in the implementation of various automatic train control systems such as ATB, ETCS and CBTC in all kinds of rail vehicles, from involvement in the BetuweRoute, HSL-Zuid and Metro Amsterdam projects.
