Fibre-optic cables along the track as acoustic sensors: pilots at ProRail and Networkrail
ProRail wants to work more intensively with the sector on Datascience (Big Data Analytics, Artificial intelligence, Sensoring). This offers plenty of opportunities to create even better and faster information from (a lot of) data and thus improve our performance. We therefore want to exchange knowledge and explore cooperation opportunities in this area.
To this end, ProRail organises monthly webinars around lunchtime. During this webinar series, we will explain what we can already do, what data sources we already have and especially what our bottlenecks are. And we challenge you to engage with us on where improvements and opportunities lie and where we can accelerate together. We also want to give a stage to those who have something to share in this area themselves.
Theme | Fibre optic cables along the track as acoustic sensor: pilots at ProRail and Networkrail
tuesday 22 March, 12.00 - 13.30 hours
Both ProRail and Networkrail are investigating what new applications are possible by using existing fibre-optic cables along the tracks as acoustic sensors. For example, to track train movements, detect infrastructure defects, get alarms for track walkers or get a better picture of the composition of the subsoil under the tracks.
This webinar will provide an overview of the applications that ProRail and Networkrail are investigating. We dive deeper into the use cases that track train movements and assess track quality. Alongside this, we will discuss the data processing required for this and show several examples.
The speakers are Shand Jamil (Data Science Lab), Cees-Jan Mas, Joost van 't Schip, and Paul van Kootwijk (ProRail) and Networkrail. Networkrail's presentation will be in English.
