M5, a choice with big consequences
Description
The Amsterdam city region and GVB bought M5 metros from Alstom. Originally, GVB always had access to 2-car trains and the operation was set up accordingly. With the arrival of the North-South line, the outflow of the silver gullies (the oldest metros from the early days of the Amsterdam metro), there was a hard need for other rolling stock.
Unlike the older rolling stock, these trains were not bought by GVB but by the city region and made available to GVB. Clearly, many stakeholders were involved in the decision-making process. By now, it is impossible to imagine Amsterdam without the M5
