Operational risks at rail
Description
Breakdowns in train traffic occur every day. How do you solve breakdowns in a safe way faster? For example, can train staff play a role in this? Should you immediately evacuate a station and stop the timetable when one smoke alarm goes off? How do you make sure that the staff who have to solve the breakdown have all the expertise they need?
As part of the annual theme Smart dealing with risks and safety, the KIVI departments Risk Management and Technology (RBT) and Rail Systems (RS), together with ProRail, are organising a symposium on risk management at the railways, with a focus on the operational effects.
Henk de Raadt, ProRail Incident Research specialist, will discuss disruptions in train traffic and safety in everyday practice.
Afterwards, three operational cases will be developed in parallel groups:
1. Function recovery by driving personnel during simple infrastructure failures (e.g. switch handles)
2. Track crossing (accessibility but also supply of materials) --> additional disruptions
3. Failures in tunnel-technical installations
Using smart questions and propositions, the discussion is deepened. The perspectives of the existing RBT working groups are specifically addressed: A&O (Analysis & Development), P&I (Practice & Implementation) and C&I (Communication & Information)
