An innovative solution for reusing braking energy from trains has been under development in the Netherlands for a few years now. In fact, the innovation has already received an international award from the UIC. The challenge remains to get from the laboratory to practice.

During this meeting, you will learn all the ins & outs of the 60 seconds a train brakes and everything that is involved, both technically and organisationally.

How is the braking energy captured and how much braking energy is actually involved? What impact can this mega-battery between the overhead line and the public grid have? Technologically, it is feasible; the challenge is therefore really at the organisational level. From type of battery cell to innovation in a public transport tender, the whole palette from technology to politics is covered.

Hedgehog Applications develops innovative, sustainable and efficient concepts with the mission of accelerating the energy transition. The Hedgehog System integrates the energy networks of train with e-bus, recycling green braking energy from trains and using it to charge e-buses.

The programme is as follows:

  • 16:00 - 16:05h: Welcome and introduction to webinar
  • 16:05 - 16:35u: Presentation by Hedgehog Applications bv
  • 16:35 - 17:00h: Questions and discussion
