Towards Zero Emission Buses
ZE Buses
Reducing CO2 emissions and finally eliminating them altogether is a subject that all public transport authorities have on their programme. NS, RET and GVB have already switched completely to green electricity. In Friesland and Groningen, the possibility of converting current diesel trains to hybrid or completely electric is being investigated. Buses face the challenge of running entirely emission-free after 2030. From 2025, only emission-free buses will be allowed to operate. Bus technology is therefore developing at a rapid pace. The bus sector is eagerly using the knowledge and experience of the rail sector, of which our speakers today are an example. But can the rail world learn a thing or two the other way round? The rail systems department is making a foray into the bus world. Out of interest, and because this may start to have its impact on the rail world in terms of policy and technology.
