Description

Ten years ago, it was decided to replace the strippenkaart with an electronic proof of payment: the OV-chipkaart. The 2000 Passenger Transport Act stipulated that this card should be used as proof of payment for all public transport. The OV-chipkaart is now usable throughout the Netherlands and in all forms of public transport and has been the only ticket in the Rotterdam and Amsterdam regions for some time now. With large numbers of travellers. There, the chip card functions satisfactorily and appears to provide interesting data on travellers' travel behaviour. During the development of the OV-chipkaart, the expectation was that better information on travel behaviour should lead to a better transport offer tailored to the wishes of travellers.

Willem Tjipjes, Head of Project Management at TLS in Amersfoort, will discuss the technical aspects of the OV chip card and expected developments in the coming years. Migration to a new chip and the new application possibilities will be discussed. Paul Morsch (Head of Planning at GVB Amsterdam) will elaborate on the new information provided by the OV chip card and its impact on the provision of public transport services (line network, timetable, fare differentiation).
