Looking at urban mobility differently: Mobility on the human scale
Online and interactive panel discussion
Coolsingel in Rotterdam, Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam and Oudegracht in Utrecht: three well-known streets in transformation. Something is going on in the city. A similarity between these and many other redevelopment projects is that concepts like 'arterial', 'flow' and 'capacity' are giving way to 'boulevard', 'promenade' and 'residence'. In the past, these terms were mostly used by urban planners and less by traffic engineers. One of the big challenges for engineers is: How do you design streets from a functional ambiance perspective where you consider urban planning and traffic engineering in conjunction? In other words, what can the two disciplines learn from each other? It is this question that is the focus of this webinar.
Book 'The law of the quickest'
If anything has prompted the general public to think about this question recently, it is the book 'The Right of the Fastest'. A book that questions the literal and figurative space the car occupies in our society. But how do traffic experts actually look at this book? This webinar gives you the chance to discuss his view on mobility with the author himself, Marco te Brömmelstroet. Moreover, an expert on functional ambience, Ronald Tamse of the municipality of Utrecht, will share with you his practical experiences with difficult design issues. In short, be there to learn and share all about mobility on the human scale!
