RandstadRail; run-up, present and future
Description
RandstadRail: the first light rail project in the Netherlands. The Hague tram network is linked to the former Zoetermeer line. In Rotterdam, hard work is underway to link the metro network to the Hofplein line. Rotterdam, The Hague and Zoetermeer meet at the new Leidschenveen station: central to the VINEX location of the same name. RandstadRail has been in the media (too) often due to teething problems. By now, the system is up to speed and for that reason, KIVI NIRIA's Department of Traffic and Transport Engineering invites you to watch and listen to this new system.
During the programme, many aspects of RandstadRail will be highlighted. Jan Termorshuizen and Niels van Oort, board members of KIVI NIRIA's Department of Traffic Engineering and Transport Technology, welcome you to HTM Personenvervoer in The Hague.
HTM's director of operations, Mr Piet Jansen, together with Head of Public Transport of the Haaglanden Urban District, Mr Ton Hilhorst, will give an introduction to the RandstadRail concept.
After this plenary session, six parallel sessions will delve deeper into various components.
Hans Rodrigo, senior policy advisor at HTM, discusses vehicle development for RR and also for all of Haaglanden. Then Martijn Leijten, associate professor at TU Delft, presents the research they have done on RR's start-up phase and related problems.
In another session, Niels van Oort, policy advisor at HTM and PhD student at TU Delft, explains how RR has a reliable timetable despite disruptions in the city. Next, Henk van der Meij, advisor at RET, will discuss the Rotterdam branch of RR: what does it look like and what are the future developments in the Rotterdam network?
In the third session, Jan Termorshuizen, policy advisor at Stadsgewest Haaglanden, will guide you from the first plans for RR in 1987 to the future developments of the rail network in Haaglanden in 2020.
It is possible to switch rooms between the first and second series of lectures.
