ECT - Euromax Terminal Rotterdam
Description
Growing global cargo flows in recent decades have triggered a development of ever larger container ships. Thus, the capacity of these ships has more than doubled in the last decade. The largest container ships coming into service soon will be able to carry 18,000 teu (twenty-foot containers) in 23 rows side by side, have a length of 400 m and a width of 59 m.
These ships operate between only a few ports in the world that have the infrastructure to receive and handle these giant vessels. From these large ports ("hubs"), containers are transported to smaller ports in the region and the hinterland.
With the further development of the Maasvlakte and associated waterways, the Port of Rotterdam remains able to act as one of those important hub ports.
The ECT Euromax Terminal Rotterdam is Rotterdam's most modern and newest terminal and fully equipped to receive and handle these very largest container ships. The first phase of the terminal is now fully operational. Further expansions are on the horizon and once Maasvlakte 2 is completed, the terminal will also be able to expand into this new port area.
We are delighted that ECT has given us the opportunity to get to know this new container terminal. The concept of the Euromax Terminal Rotterdam is a further development of the innovative automated handling concept of the ECT Delta Terminal, also located on the Maasvlakte. Visits will therefore be held at both the Euromax and the Delta Terminal.
As parking facilities at the terminal are limited and the viewing can only be done by bus, we will gather at the P+R car park-transferium at the Capelse Brug metro station (Abram van Rijckevorselplein 46, 3065 SM Rotterdam) from where we will travel by bus to the Maasvlakte. The car park can be reached from the A-16 via the Capelle a/d IJssel exit.
