Description
Shimano Europe Holding is a subsidiary of Shimano Inc, a leading manufacturer of bicycle parts and angling equipment based in Osaka, Japan. Shimano Europe Holding is responsible for the distribution of Shimano products in Europe, through its own sales organisation and independent distributors.
Since last year, Shimano has implemented an innovative Picking Tray System (PTS) from the company Savoye at its distribution centre in Nunspeet. This system uses several autonomous shuttles per warehouse aisle for the entry and exit of stock modules with lifts providing vertical transport of the shuttles.
The warehouse has 15,000 storage locations with five aisles of 40 m length. The system is 9 metres high and operates with 20 shuttles. There is one infeed station and two picking stations connected to the warehouse by conveyors and lifts. When setting up
the system, the aim was to reduce energy consumption and emissions of harmful waste so that it can be called a "green" solution
