GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING, READINGS AND ITA OPEN DISCUSSION DAY

From 5.30 p.m. you are welcome
at Strukton's Restaurant in Maarssen. During this evening, the Annual General Meeting will be held, followed by a simple bread meal and then some substantive lectures. Starting time of the lectures is approx. 18.45 hrs.

The following topics will be discussed:

THE ROLE OF ICT IN THE Sinking
The importance of ICT in the sinking process will be made clear using several practical examples of sinking tunnels in Korea and Limerick. Simulations of the immersion process are visualised and the actual immersion process as executed (As built) can be replayed afterwards, with the experiences gained in the last element being directly incorporated into the new immersion element, the so-called "Observational Method". In this way, failure costs are kept to a minimum and immersion is carried out in a process-oriented way.

COMPENSATION GROUTING
During the drilling process for the North/South Line in Amsterdam, any settlements will be compensated at designated locations using compensation grouting. This method was used successfully in the construction of a bored tunnel under the Antwerp railway station. This presentation will deal with the various facets, choice, application, execution, etc.

DELFT UNDERGROUND
The railway line that runs straight through Delft will be put underground. The associated challenges will be covered in this presentation. Carrying out a complex job in the inner city of Delft.

VRIESWAND STATENTUNNEL ROTTERDAM
A section of the cofferdam wall constructed for the refurbishment of the CS metro station in Rotterdam was constructed around the metro tunnel currently in use. Strict requirements regarding watertightness and structural strength had to be met. In this context, the application of ground freezing techniques was chosen. A presentation on the construction pit of Metrostation CS in Rotterdam; an ingenious cocktail of soil, concrete and ice.

ITA WORKSHOPS AND OPEN DISCUSSION EVENT
To conclude the ITA Evening 2008, a report will be given on the 'Highlights of the ITA World Tunnel Congress 2008' discussed at the last ITA Congress in India. This will be followed by the ITA Open Discussion to conclude this annual meeting.
