Two large offshore vessels to be fitted with Huisman Tub cranes

Allseas' "Pioneering Spirit" will be fitted with a 5000MT crane. On Heerema's "Sleipnir", 2 cranes will be installed, each with a lifting capacity of as much as 10,000mt. Unlike traditional Tub Cranes that use bogies or large wheels for their slewing system, these cranes are fitted with 20- and 30-metre diameter bearings of their own design respectively and produced in-house in China and Europe.

The technology involved has been successfully applied on other projects such as the 'Seven Borealis', 'Aegir' and the 'Scylla', spearheading a change in the crane industry. What techniques are applied? What makes these particular cranes innovative? Why do they choose Huisman as their manufacturer?
