EYE@Sofia 18th to 20th May
Last weekend, 3 Young KIVI members visited the EYE conference in Sofia Bulgaria. There, they announced their intention to bring the EYE conference to the Netherlands (Eindhoven and The Hague) in May 2019. This amid an inspiring mix of Young Communities from 19 countries who attended workshops on climate change and story telling, among other topics. Sectors such as copper producing industry(Sofia Med),industrial automation(Spesima) and management of the national high-voltage grid(CERB) were also visited. YKE members also worked outside the programme to further professionalise the Young KIVI department and its future plans.

This time organised in the region around the city of Sofia in Bulgaria by the FNTS(conference website). 1-2 times a year a conference is organised in the home country of respective member community through the EYE platform.
Participating countries
Finland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Bulgaria, Spain. Portugal, Austria, Malta, Denmark, UK, Ireland, Hungary, Switzerland. Croatia, Norway.
Gender diversity
The French branch within EYE conducted a survey on the position of women among engineers. See some interesting figures.
Climate change
Swiss researcher Michel Bourqi presented a number of scientific facts on climate change, clearly separating hard data from predictions/estimates. He is launching an independent platform CLIMANOSCO to make scientific information available to engineers and other audiences. See the slides here.
EYE comes to the Netherlands
Young KIVI will bring the conference to the Netherlands in May 2019, namely Eindhoven and The Hague, where the event will focus on the tracks water, automotive and high tech. More info on EYE(www.e-y-e.eu) can be found here, the NL version is here (www.kivi.nl/yke), see heading EYE Netherlands.
Professionalisation of the EYE platform
In recent years, EYE's organisational structure (the council and council meetings) has been revamped and a clear growth strategy has been expressed to get morecountries in Europe connected. The professional approach here has inspired a critical professionalisation drive within Young KIVI itself. It is well known across europe that associations have lost popularity and are facing steep membership declines. Although in terms of content, the association still offers added value for young engineers, think of personal development by networking in a very diverse environment, and professional development by being confronted with new developments in industries on european soil and their interaction worldwide. Social conditions are also discussed extensively in this context, such as gender diversity and climate change.
Professionalisation of YKE
The involvement of Young KIVI directors over the past few years has helped raise this network to a higher level, while at the same time setting an example for the organisational side of YKE itself and its role within KIVI. With new tools and future visions. We are currently working on a roadmap, a long-term plan and a sounding board group within KIVI to give YKE a stronger position within the association. To ultimately create more value for our young members, but also for all young engineers in the Netherlands.
Description
In May, three YKE directors will travel east to represent YKE in the EYE Council meeting, attend the sustainable engineering conference and use this weekend right away to work on the YKE multi-year plan. Join us!
