How to win the War on Global Warming
Description
How do we get a sustainable economy by 2020? Not by building coal-fired power stations. How do you sell 'sustainable' to clients and how do you ensure that theoretical knowledge is translated into a practical implementable concept?
If you want to know more about this, then come to the KIVI NIRIA meeting 'How to win the War on Global Warming'.
The speakers on this evening are Mr M. Romijn Consultant in Sustainable Energies, Mr H. Buitenhuis of DWA and Ms M. Goemans of MWH.
Mr Romijn is the initiator of the fortune cooker, a system that allows people in the developing world to cook in a sustainable way, drastically reducing CO2 emissions and preserving nature. Mr Romijn will use his knowledge and experience in the energy sector to explain why he considers sustainable development of great importance. He will also discuss the Netherlands' CO2 target for 2020.
DWA is a consultancy and engineering firm that carries out projects in the field of energy and plant engineering. The concept of stewardship is a core value for DWA.
DWA develops energy-saving concepts and applies them in projects. Some examples are:
- Oostelijke Handelskade in Amsterdam; a large area that is sustainably heated and cooled with energy storage in the soil, surface water and heat pumps.
- heating 4,000 homes with geothermal heat in Den Haag ZW, mix of technology and organisation.
Mr Buitenhuis will talk about what is required of the engineer to turn knowledge into sustainable solutions.
MWH B.V. is a leading international consultancy and engineering firm in the field of environment, water and energy. Ms Goemans will talk more about MWH's sustainability ambitions and how MWH puts this into practice.
Building a better world is MWH's corporate motto and guides its activities. In 2006, MWH Global joined the Clinton Global Initiative. Among other things, this led to the adoption of the MWH Climate Change Commitment. In it, MWH commits to pursuing sustainability at three levels:
1. Sustainability in our projects
2. Sustainability in our operations
3. Fulfilling MWH's social responsibilities
Target audience: anyone who enjoys learning more about sustainable development and what it involves.
