Additive manufacturing
Description
Additive Manufacturing
By Ed Rousseau, Business Development Manager, Chemelot Campus B.V.
Additive Manufacturing or 3D printing gets a lot of attention nowadays and many developments are ongoing. This is especially true in the area of design (freedom in design), home printing and small series for personalised items (for instance in biomedical applications).
Availability of suitable materials for Additive Manufacturing is often mentioned as one of the missing elements. 3D printing of metals is already applied in many technical parts (for aircraft engines). In the area of 3D printing of polymers however, there is a strong demand for new and/or better materials in order to attain the required performance of the printed parts.
In this lecture the existing situation in materials for Additive Manufacturing will be outlined and a view will be given on the short, medium and long term future
