Lecture by
Mr Robert and Jo Savelkoul

This lecture is a collaboration of VIZL and KIVI.

We will start the 687th VIZL activity with the lecture "Data and the Digital Twin: Sense and nonsense of data (in a 3D data model)" by Mr Robert Savelkoul.

Data is all around us, and huge amounts of data are produced every second. Inspecter, conceived and co-founded by Robert Savelkoul in 2015, aims to make data from the built environment accessible and visible.

In addition, Inspecter helps data owners regain real ownership of their data.
In this lecture, Robert will take us through the different types of data available from our built environment. Using practical applications, together we will explore the sense and nonsense of this data.

Be it heat stress, water management, recycling of building materials, or the European Union's CO2 targets.

Finally, he will raise the question of the added value of data analysis and visualisation in 3D, both for society in general and for the engineering world in particular.

Mr Robert Savelkoul

After a short break, we continue with the lecture "Corrosion in water and steam plants: Obtaining, building, capturing and releasing knowledge and expertise with AI" by Mr Jo Savelkoul.

The presenter, Jo Savelkoul, is a corrosion expert. He has noticed in recent years that less and less expertise is being built up by the current generation of technologists and the companies they work for.

Much knowledge is outsourced, which means that the deeper causes of relevant corrosion processes are no longer present within the own company. External experts are hired for specific problems, which they solve without always seeing the connection with other processes within the company. As a result, a pooling of expert knowledge about the in-house plant is often lacking.

A.I. (artificial intelligence) is then seen as an enquiry point where technologists can request their knowledge. However, the question is: what is the impact of A.I.? Will A.I. provide us with the solutions we need?
