Visit to railcar factory Bombardier/Talbot in Aachen, combined with a visit to the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum and a closing dinner at the Indoor Barbecue restaurant Finders in Aachen.

This major annual activity consists of three parts. We start at Talbot. Talbot's wagon factory was founded as early as 1838. Under this name, they built for many railway companies and also for the Dutch Railways. In 1995, Talbot was taken over by Canadian Bombardier. Currently, they are working on the Sprinter and the VIRM-4 for Dutch Railways, among others. The NS management speaks in praise of the cooperation with Bombardier Aachen to build fifty luxurious VIRM-4 double-decker trainsets for the NS.
After the welcome and introduction, we will tour the factory and see the VIRM-4 production.
At 3.30 pm we will leave by car for the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum.
Highlights in this museum are the excellent collection of paintings and sculptures from the late Middle Ages and painting from the 17th century. An exhibition of 17th-century painter Jacob Backer ( 1609-1651) is currently running. This Amsterdam portrait painter, a contemporary of Rembrandt, enjoyed great prestige in his time because of his brilliant painting technique. The exhibition was previously on show (until 22 February 2009) at The Rembrandthuis in Amsterdam.
At 18.00, we will leave for the nearby Finders Barbecue-Indoor restaurant for the dinner to be prepared by ourselves (a surprise), during which ties can be tightened.
Participants will receive directions with parking options in advance. Carpooling is requested wherever possible.
