Rijkswaterstaat and the challenges posed by climate change. Followed by networking drinks.

The lecture will be given by Mr Jacques Peerboom, Rijkswaterstaat.
During this lecture, Jacques Peerboom will discuss what we now know about climate change and why adaptation is inevitable. He shows what this will mean in concrete terms for the Netherlands and Limburg in particular in the coming years, and which choices governments, managers and engineers have to make now to limit damage and risks in the future. He also discusses how Rijkswaterstaat, water boards and other authorities have already been working for some time on making our living environment climate-proof. Finally, he considers what you yourself can do - professionally and privately - to better deal with the consequences of climate change.
Heavy rain completely floods A79 Maastricht-Heerlen.

Climate change is no longer a future issue, but a reality we are already facing today. The consequences are also becoming increasingly visible in the Netherlands and in Limburg: extreme precipitation and flooding, longer periods of drought and increasing pressure on our infrastructure and water management.
