Strong collaboration leads to stent
Description
Biomedical is the area within DSM where Bright Material Sciences and Bright Life sciences are combined to create a Brighter Living for patients around the globe. The Business Segment Drug Delivery is developing with partners, applications and devices for local target delivery of active ingredients. in this colloquium an insight will be given into how this is done using an example project. This project is the collaborative effort between several DSM units, German subcontractor Hermoteq and US customer Svelte Medical Systems.
This collaboration has resulted in a revolutionary new coronary stent. Along with an improved design, the stent features a special polymer coating from DSM Biomedical that slowly releases an anti-inflammatory drug before safely dissolving into the bloodstream.
The project has now entered the EU human clinical trial testing with a 190-patient trial in 6 European countries.
