Dear KIVI Limburg members,
First of all, best wishes for 2026. We hope it will be an inspiring and technically challenging year for you. We would like to give a brief look back and a preview of KIVI Limburg's activities.
Renewed KIVI website
In 2025, the KIVI website will be thoroughly renewed. The new layout focuses more strongly on communities and on the personal development of members and students. Career planning and advising have been given a more prominent place. We invite you to visit the website and explore the communities relevant to you.
Activities in Limburg
2025 was also an active year in Limburg. In February, we started Design Thinking activities. In May, a members' day took place together with our Euregio partners from Belgium and Germany.
On 19 June, we organised an excursion to Sportcentrum Glanerbrook in Geleen, a sustainably built sports centre that runs entirely on its own energy sources. This was followed in November by an excursion to the Feed Design Lab, a test lab for innovative and sustainable animal feeds.
Several more excursions and webinars are planned for 2026. Unfortunately, the Garzweiler project near Aachen could not go ahead in 2025. We are currently in discussions with RWE to set a new date for this. As soon as more is known about this, we will inform you.
In addition, several other excursions are in preparation for 2026.
1.- The first lecture is on Climate Change by Mr J.Peerboom, Geohydrologist of the Department of Waterways and Public Works. He will discuss the implications for our water management and infrastructure on Friday 27 February 2026. (See activities for registration.) This will be followed by a networking reception where we look forward to meeting you and exchanging views.
Lunch webinars
Besides excursions, we organise monthly lunch webinars, including in cooperation with the Department of Electrical Engineering. In 2025, topics such as making the electricity grid more sustainable, applications of solar energy and direct current systems within companies were central.
For 2026, we are preparing a new series of lunch webinars focusing on sustainability and the transition to a sustainable society. You will also receive timely notification of these.
Networking and cooperation
KIVI Limburg maintains contacts with Maastricht University, where the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) was established five years ago. Through this cooperation, we are involved in students and projects in the field of Circular Economy, including at the Brightlands Campus in Geleen, with a focus on plastics reprocessing.
