When you report an emergency via the 112 emergency number, 'The Beast' flies above your head within minutes. The drone takes images of the emergency and sends them to the emergency services. By seeing, hearing and smelling, the drone can save lives and reduce damage. Early next year, the superdrone will be ready for police, fire brigade, ambulance and the Department of Public Works. Together with a team of 20 researchers, Abeje Mersha is working on 'unmanned systems' and other advanced technologies.

Want to know more about this interesting application? Then join the webinar on Wednesday 22 September next. Abeje Mersha will give a presentation, after which there will be an opportunity for questions. This webinar will also cover the use of "the flying arm". This is a drone with a robotic arm. It is ideally suited for cleaning and maintaining wind turbines and solar panels.

Abeje Mersha is Lecturer in Mechatronics at Saxion. He is one of the three finalists of the KIVI Engineer Prize 2021.
