Energy trade
Description
The complexity of energy trading has increased with the liberalisation of the energy sector in Europe. This has led to a greatly increased volume of gas and electricity trading. As the market matures, energy is increasingly traded multiple times before delivery. The market is currently further affected by CO2 emissions regulations and market developments around new supplies of gas to Europe, including in the form of LNG.
But economic headwinds are also having an impact on the supply-demand balance. Energy portfolios are re-optimised on a daily basis and producers next: make their own or buy back on the market.
