On a global scale, demand for flat glass represents about 45 million tonnes per year. Of this, some 50 % comes from Asia, 27 % from Europe and 15 % from North America. Nearly 70% is for construction, 20% for furniture and interiors and 10% for automotive and transport.

Float technology is now the universal process for flat glass production. With about 13% of world production capacity, the AGC group (of which AGC Glass Europe is a part) is the world's largest flat glass producer. AGC Glass Europe has an industrial base of 18 float plants in Western Europe (11), Central Europe (3) and Eastern Europe (4)
