A networking event on Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS), co-hosted by Arnhem-based ELaad, will take place on Monday 13 April.

The Netherlands is in the middle of the energy transition and is experiencing rapid growth in the number of electric cars, heat pumps, home batteries and solar panels in people's homes. The combination of these energy-intensive devices offers many opportunities to deal flexibly with household electricity consumption by taking into account moments of local sustainable generation or, conversely, moments of scarcity.in this way, locally generated power can be used optimally and load on the grid reduced, important in times of grid congestion.

To properly exploit the potential of household flexibility, so-called Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) are needed. A HEMS is a physical or virtual device to which all appliances with flexibility can be connected. The HEMS coordinates and optimises the operation of the appliances present. It is thus possible to react automatically to external signals, e.g. cheap supply tariffs or available grid capacity. Smart planning can also be done via a HEMS, ensuring that the needs of the house are carried out optimally.
