Nothing is lost in the circular economy
Three lectures on applications of Circular Economy
[1] What is circular economy: Douwe Jan Joustra is one of the frontrunners in circular economy and was involved in its introduction in the Netherlands. Initiator of the report 'Circular Business' in which business opportunities for the Netherlands were explored. He is currently programme manager Design in the Accelerator Circular Economy NL. In his presentation, he will discuss the basic principles of the circular economy. Which new business models can be recognised? As a second element, he will discuss the circular economy as a 'living system concept' and what we learn from nature to achieve a sustainable, valuable, economic system. Examples are of course not lacking.
[2] The application of circular economy at carpet supplier Interface: Interface is the inventor of the Heuga carpet tile, a Dutch innovation. The company has now been working on its Mission Zero for 20 years. the goal of making a restorative contribution to the environment and society and reducing negative impacts to zero by 2020. During this time, they have gained experience in the transition from linear to circular by applying the principles of nature: biomimicry. Thanks to co-creation, this goal has led to circular innovations in processes, products and services.
[3] The application of circular economy at Alliander's new office: The use of the complex for 1,200 employees should become CO2-neutral through the use of solar panels and a CHP plant. The residual energy will be supplied to the surrounding area. One of the principles in adapting the buildings, is 'waste as raw material'. The material that remains will be reused on the site. New materials are recyclable. Rainwater is collected through the roof for cooling the building and for use as flushing water for the toilets.
Alliander's office complex is part of plans of the Duiven municipality to make industrial estate Nieuwgraaf more sustainable. The building is being developed by
through 'co-creation', in cooperation with Alliander employees. The building complex will be designed according to the principles of Smart Working with a total of over 850 flexible workplaces. The total
area of the building is 15,000 square metres.
The design for this building was made by architect
Thomas Rau, the leader in circular building
