Description

Speaker Wim Turkenburg will address the following statements:

1. Wind and solar energy are not financially viable in the future by today's standards because the market price varies too much.

2. The Netherlands should invest in additional power plants to fall back on when there is little sun or wind so that supply remains constant

3. The energy price is based on supply and demand. 'Old-fashioned' coal and nuclear plants offer a reasonably constant flow of energy, allowing them to make a profit and recover their costs.

4. This is not the case with energy produced by wind turbines, because the wind does not always blow at the same rate. The moment it does blow hard and a lot of power is produced, the price drops. "By now, that yields so little that owners cannot recoup their investments."
