With all appliances and installations running on direct current these days, there is a huge increase in batteries in society. However, manufacturers cannot continue to afford to treat batteries as disposable products. Due to their limited lifespan, batteries pose an increasing environmental risk.

The company NOWOS dived into repair and maintenance of lithium-ion batteries. Its mission: to make battery repair and reuse a standard across Europe. It is now the European market leader in this field. Today, more than 80% of the batteries NOWOS receives can be repaired, saving both money and materials otherwise wasted through premature recycling.

NOWOS was founded five years ago. The company has now developed repair capabilities for 98 lithium-ion models. By 2024, around 90,000 batteries will have been repaired, representing more than 500,000 kilograms of product weight.

We are pleased to be guests of this innovative company. Prins Doornekamp, founder and CEO of NOWOS, will take us through his experiences over the past few years. What was involved in developing the necessary processes? What types of batteries offer the most perspective? What had to be overcome to be profitable?

What can you give customers in terms of guarantees? NOWOS has invested in the development of a Battery Passport System. This helps scale up repair protocols to serve more battery types for more applications.
NOWOS now has hubs in the Netherlands, France and a partner in the UK. Arrangements for branches are in place with Poland and Germany. What does the future of the battery market look like? What are the challenges yet to be overcome in scaling up?

It looks interesting to us, so come, watch and listen on 1 October.
