Description

Tonight, Monique Juffermans gives a presentation on her book "The Egg of Columbus". Coming up with a good concept is quite complicated. That's why Monique Juffermans of Amsterdam-based concept agency Dutchlabel has written a book about the best method for a good concept.

Our brain is going to change in the next few years. And that is necessary also given the difficult economic developments that are taunting our businesses. We need a different way of thinking to come up with ideas that bring added value. Think of self-thinking highways that generate energy to light lampposts or gyms, where the energy released by athletes is donated to charity. For example, a struggling school in the neighbourhood.

Alan Greenspan, a great American economist and until 2006 chairman of the Federal Reserve Board predicted back in 1996 that the conceptual era would make its appearance. We came from the agricultural era and industrial era into the information age, which especially required a lot of left-brained analytical thinking. Now that Asia is taking over our left-brain thinking through overproduction, outsourcing and automation, it becomes important to distinguish ourselves with concept thinking.

Concept thinking is done with your left and right brain simultaneously. These need to be balanced to come up with special ideas that add value. 90 per cent of people are left-brained. Monique Juffermans therefore calls on professionals to train more with their right hemisphere.
