Description

On Thursday 13 April, KIVI Region Utrecht will visit the Hubrecht Institute for developmental biology and stem cell research.

The Hubrecht Institute is one of the institutes of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences( KNAW) and has a rich history. In 2016, it celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Research at the Hubrecht Institute has evolved from descriptive and exploratory embryology to the molecular-genetic basis of embryonic development and of adult stem cells.

The central question that researchers at the Hubrecht Institute are concerned with is: how does a fertilised egg develop into a whole organism and what role do stem cells have in this process. The research is fundamental in nature but with an eye on possible applications.
