Essent Claus power station Maasbracht
Description
Modernisation Claus power plant
The Claus power plant, located in Maasbracht in Limburg, is named after HRH Prince Claus. The power plant was commissioned in the late 1970s. Until recently, this power plant consisted of two identical gas-fired units, part A and B. Each part has 640 megawatts (MWe).
Unit A was commissioned in 1977, unit B in 1978. At the Claus power plant, Essent generates electricity using natural gas. In addition, the power plant was made suitable for generating Green Electricity from vegetable oil in 2002.
Modernisation Claus B
Essent is working on a large-scale modernisation of the Claus power plant in Maasbracht, one of our major energy production sites.
Until recently, this site consisted of two identical gas-fired units of 640 megawatts (MWe) each, units A and B. The modernisation project will turn the former Claus B unit into the new Claus C unit: a power plant with a total capacity of about 1,300 MWe and an efficiency of about 58.5%. The former Claus B power plant had a capacity of 640 MWe and an efficiency of about 40%
Unfortunately, a tour of the project C site is not possible
